With 3 series kernels (this dmesg output is from 3.3.0-rc4) I get "xHCI host not
responding to stop endpoint command" when accessing an external 1 TByte hard
drive on a ASUS M5A97 pro USB3 port. The drive performs ok when used with a
USB2 port. Please advise.

Thanks

NTFS volume version 3.1.

I know that there are two people using ASUS M5A97/pro mainboard and have
issues with USB. After updating BIOS their issues were resolved. Could
you please try update the latest BIOS?

Thanks,
Andiry

Andiry,
Thanks for the suggestion I have upgraded to bios version 1007 which is
the latest but the problem is still present. I have attached a full
dmesg listing for your consideration.
Do you have other USB3 devices to test? Do all the USB devices show the
same symptom when connected to USB3.0 ports?

Also, please try BIOS version 0813 and 0902.

Thanks,
Andiry

Andiry,

I have tried all the BIOS versions suggested with no luck. I have looked at
all my USB devices and I have currently only the one USB3 device.
I do have a USB3 card in another machine (a Windows XP machine). The USB3
drive works correctly when used on this interface in this machine.

thanks
Stuart

Can you plug your USB3 card on M5A97 and try with USB3 drive? If it
works fine, I suspect it's controller HW issue.

Thanks,

There is similar issue on M5A97 and fixed by BIOS upgrade. I don't know why
it's not useful for your case.

Do you have other USB3 devices to test? Do all the USB devices show the
same symptom when connected to USB3.0 ports?
Also, please try BIOS version 0813 and 0902.
Thanks,

Andiry,
I have tried all the BIOS versions suggested with no luck. I have looked

all my USB devices and I have currently only the one USB3 device.
I do have a USB3 card in another machine (a Windows XP machine). The

drive works correctly when used on this interface in this machine.
Thanks for the test. Do your USB1.1/2.0 devices work OK on USB3 ports of
M5A97 platform?
Can you plug your USB3 card on M5A97 and try with USB3 drive? If it
works fine, I suspect it's controller HW issue.
Thanks,
Andiry
Andiry,
Herewith the results for the extra USB3 Pci-e card.
In all cases the drive could be mounted and data transfered.
The dmesg is still normal. I suspect it's controller HW issue on M5A97.
There is similar issue on M5A97 and fixed by BIOS upgrade. I don't know why
it's not useful for your case.
Thanks,
Andiry

Andiry,
I have tried all the BIOS versions suggested with no luck. I have looked at
all my USB devices and I have currently only the one USB3 device.
I do have a USB3 card in another machine (a Windows XP machine). The USB3
drive works correctly when used on this interface in this machine.
Thanks for the test. Do your USB1.1/2.0 devices work OK on USB3 ports of
M5A97 platform?
Can you plug your USB3 card on M5A97 and try with USB3 drive? If it
works fine, I suspect it's controller HW issue.
Thanks,
Andiry
Andiry,

With a USB2 1Tbyte Harddive in the M5A97 USB3 ports I get the following
dmesg output on linux 3.2.8:

However on linux 3.3.0-rc5 I do not get the warnings:

usb usb6: Manufacturer: Linux 3.3.0-rc5 xhci_hcd
usb 5-1: new high-speed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd

In both instances I can mount the file system on the disk and transfer
data without error. The dmesg was filtered on "xhci_hcd".

I will now add in the USB3 pci-e card and repeat the test for both USB3
and USB2 harddrives.

regards

Stuart

Do you have other USB3 devices to test? Do all the USB devices show the
same symptom when connected to USB3.0 ports?
Also, please try BIOS version 0813 and 0902.
Thanks,
Andiry

Andiry,
I have tried all the BIOS versions suggested with no luck. I have looked

all my USB devices and I have currently only the one USB3 device.
I do have a USB3 card in another machine (a Windows XP machine). The
USB3

drive works correctly when used on this interface in this machine.
Thanks for the test. Do your USB1.1/2.0 devices work OK on USB3 ports of
M5A97 platform?
Can you plug your USB3 card on M5A97 and try with USB3 drive? If it
works fine, I suspect it's controller HW issue.
Thanks,
Andiry

Nothing abnormal in the message. Seems USB2 device works well.
